Our Projects

With the financial support and technical assistance of the European Union, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republican Centre for Medical Statistics and Information have implemented the following projects of a total value exceeding EUR 5 million:

The project “Health Information System Assessment”, 2008 – 2009, has assessed the health information system in the Republic of Tajikistan, and has produced a list of 834 health indicators, which have been structured in five sections. Out of that number, 777 indicators have been defined as “key”.

The project “Health Information System Planning”, 2010 – 2011, has used the Health Metrics Tool of the World Health Organisation to review the list of health indicators. As a result, the number of indicators has been reduced from 834 to 345. Out of that number, 40 indicators have been identified as “key”, in line with the requirements of the National Health Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan 2010 - 2020. Metadata descriptions have been developed for all “key” indicators. The Health Information System Strategic Plan for 2010 – 2015 has been developed and has been endorsed by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population.

The project “Technical Assistance to Support the Strengthening of the Health Information System in Tajikistan”, 2012 – 2016, has developed, piloted, and implemented the DHIS2 information system at national, regional, and district levels. The system has been installed at the level of Republican Centre for Medical Statistics and Information, city and regional Centres of Medical Statistics and Information, regional health directorates, republican health institutions, District Health Centres, and Central District Hospitals. The DHIS2 system has been officially certified by the Main Directorate for Protection of State Secrets by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and has been officially commissioned. The Health Information System Strategic Plan for 2016 – 2020 has been developed and has been endorsed by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population.

The project “Health Management Information System – Phase IV”, 2017 – 2018, has maintained and has further developed the DHIS2 system. Continuous quality management practices have been implemented, the format of the statistical reports has been improved, and the statistical reports for 2015 and 2016 have been produced in automatic mode. Besides production of statistical reports, the DHIS2 is used for operative access to information on morbidity and mortality, and for training of health managers in evidence-based decision-making.
