International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition (ICD-10)

The International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition, (ICD-10) is a unified normative document for evidence of morbidity, causes of seeking medical assistance, and causes of death.

The ICD-10 includes three volumes. The 1st volume includes a complete list of three-digit classes and four-digit subclasses, and special lists for statistical processing of morbidity and mortality data. It also contains the definitions of essential ICD-10 terms, mainly for child and maternal mortality.

The 2nd volume include the description of ICD-10, its goals, fields of application, instructions, ICD-10 utilisation rules and rules of encoding of causes of death and diseases, and also the main requirements for statistical presentation of information.

The 3rd volume include an alphabetical list of diseases and injuries (traumas), a list of external injuries (traumas), and lists of medications and chemical substances.

It should be remembered that ICD-10 is not intended for indexation of individual clinical cases.
